Description

Macrolide antibiotic similar in structure to erythromycin, but, can be dosed systemically once daily; produces less GI intolerance and reaches higher intracellular concentrations than erythromycin; used systemically for STDs, otitis media, pharyngitis, community-acquired pneumonia, PID, and Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) prophylaxis in patients with advanced HIV disease. An ophthalmic solution is used for bacterial conjunctivitis.

Composition

Each capsule contains Azithromycin as dehydrate 250mg. (USP Specs).

Indication

AZITH is used: For the treatment of mild to moderate acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis in patients with COPD caused by susceptible strains of Haemophilus influenza, Moraxella catarrhalis, or Streptococcus pneumoniae. For the treatment of acute otitis media. For the treatment of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). For the treatment of uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections caused by S. aureus, S. pyogenes or S. agalactiae. For the treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). For the treatment of gonorrhea. For the treatment of chancroid due to Haemophilus ducreyi. For the treatment of Mycobacterium avium complex infection (MAC). For Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) prophylaxis in HIV-infected patients. For the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis. For the treatment of non-gonococcal urethiritis (NGU) and chlamydia infection, including infant pneumonia. For the treatment of group A beta-hemolytic streptococcal (GAS) pharyngitis (primary rheumatic fever prophylaxis) and tonsillitis. For the treatment of primary, secondary, or early latent syphilis (caused by Treponema pallidum) in nonpregnant, penicillin-allergic patients. For the treatment of chronic prostatitis† due to Ureaplasma urealyticum. For the treatment of Legionnaire's disease. For the treatment of shigellosis diarrhea. For the treatment of mild-to-moderate campylobacteriosis in HIV-infected patients. For the treatment of early Lyme disease. For bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis. For the treatment of cholera.
